BMvirgin alert (me)

hi!

This will be my first time on the playa this year. My original plan was to set up a small camp by myself, and spend the majority of my time out and about, but Candace (who I know from swing dancing) told me to find you guys on tribes, and now I'm thinking about doing something different.

So I have a number of questions:

Are you folks up for a newbie in the camp?
how can i pitch in if you are?
How do community camps 'work'?
What am I getting myself into? :)

    Hey everyone;
Meet John. Candace and I will vouch for him.

John - helping out is easy, before and during the burn. Before the burn we get together to build or plan things ahead of time, show up if you can and help. I think there is a dome building workshop this weekend and a fun get together Aug 11th. Read the postings for more info.

Before everyone heads out we try to figure out who has extra room in their car because someone is always overloaded and can use some help transporting stuff.

When everyone first gets to the playa, there is tons of stuff to do building the camp during the first 2 days - domes to set up, build the shower, set up the kitchen, etc. Just ask to help and someone will put you to work.

    Hi!

I was a Karma Chicken newbie last year (my 3rd burn) and I was treated really well. I'm up for another newbie. Cici is also going to be a new Chicken.

I guess you could see if there's room in Mark's building party this weekend if you really want to get your feet wet. Certainly come to the FUNraiser party on the 11th.

My (still wet behind the ears) perception is that community camps are basically about helping and bringing what's special about you to the camp. Last year I brought solar panels and put up fluorescent lights in the dome so that it could be lit at night if desired. But even a good sense of humor seems like a pretty good contribution.

Otherwise, as Dr. Dave says, there's plenty of stuff to do there. Your best way to help is just to look around every now and then and see if someone's doing something that needs more hands. (Examples of stuff from last year include the shower, raising of the dome, construction of the storage and food huts, and helping people set up their shade structures.)

Well I'm definitely game for chipping in the first day or two that I'm there to get things set up.

I'd really like meet people before the playa, but it looks like the days I have free are August 19th, and then the 25th and 26th (the weekend right before). I'll keep an eye out for anything that pops up that I can go to.

      thanks!

I will be bringing along a Virgin too, my friend Alyssa. She'll be camping in the barns with Julie and I. We work together and I know she'll have no problem fitting right in.
